“Scylla Dames 1 traveled to Varsseveld on Saturday by bus thanks to Bochane car rental. It was a hard fought victory for Scylla in a five game set. Scylla started off to a great start with Astrid serving the first five points. VCV started making subs which must have worked because with one server they went from losing 8-14 to winning 15-14. By this time both coaches had used up both of their timeouts. Gert started to make substitutions with Femkje for Floor, Asha for Renske, and Charlotte for Astrid. But alas VCV won the game 25-23.
The second set started just as close as the first one ended. VCV called their first timeout when they were down 11-13 but Scylla ‘s lead just grew. They called their next timeout when they were down 13-19. VCV had a few of 2 point runs to make the game closer but Scylla finished ahead still 20-25.
Both teams came out with the same intensity in the 3rd set with a tight neck-and-neck game until Astrid went on a 6 point serving streak for Scylla to take the lead 13-10 before VCV called their first timeout. VCV came back which forced Gert to call his first timeout at 14-14. Scylla chipped away with every server serving twice. Charlotte was substituted in at 20-20. Both teams ran out of timeouts as the set went into extra points. At 25-24 Asha was substituted in for Annie and Scylla once again pulled off the victory 24-26.
Unfortunately Scylla could not keep their streak going and started making errors. Gert called his first timeout at 10-6 and first substitution with Asha for Annie at 12-8. The substitutions continued with Femkje for Floor at 16-10, timeout at 17-10, Veerle for Astrid at 21-12, and Frouke for Charlotte at 22-12. Luckily this game ended quickly with VCV winning 25-14 so Scylla could focus on the last set.
Scylla came out strong with a three point lead when VCV called their timeout at 3-6. Unfortunately the lead didn’t last when VCV went on a 4-point run with Gert calling a timeout at 7-8. Femkje was subbed in to serve for Floor at 12-13. And at VCV’s match point, 14-13, Annie was subbed in for Asha. Renske’s three point serving run stopped at 15-14 after VCV’s last timeout was called. Charlotte served the game out and the match ended with 15-17 by a great pass and set up and smash by Yolenthe!
Now Scylla has a week off before they come back and play on Halloween at De Vlinder at 16:00 versus WSV. Come watch and stay for the Halloween party in the Cantine afterwards!
